Little Mermaid Cake

Bake a Little Mermaid birthday cake or purchase one from your local bakery. Make a tiered cake, constructed with different size layers. Use a large round pan to make the bottom tier, a medium pan for the middle tier, and a small pan for the top tier. Cut the edges of the cakes so they appear wavy. Frost all of the layers in blue-green frosting to represent the sea. Place characters such as Ariel, Sebastian, and Flounder on the top of the Little Mermaid cake. On the middle and bottom tiers use a rice crispy treat mixture to mold other underwater objects such as coral, seaweed, and sea grass. Cover the rice crispy treat figures in the appropriate colored fondant frosting.

Little Mermaid Games + Activities

Little Mermaid activities are a perfect way to entertain young guests at the Little Mermaid birthday party.

  • Scavenger Hunt: Plan a scavenger hunt with items from the Little Mermaid movie. Hide items such as figures of Ariel, Prince Eric, Sebastian (crab), Flounder (fish), Ursula (octopus), and Scuttle (seagull). Instruct the children to work together to find each item. Offer hints throughout the scavenger hunt if there are signs of frustration. Award prizes to all of the children at the end of the scavenger hunt.

  • Decorate Seashells: Buy scalloped seashells from a local craft store. Provide guests with washable paints, glitter pens, and plastic gemstones to adorn the shells. These can also double as fancy party favors!

  • Hold Mermaid Races: Pretend guests are young mermaids by wrapping their legs in colorful paper streamers. Keeping their feet together, they must hop and shimmy their way from the starting point. Whoever “swims” to the finish line first will be crowned Princess Ariel. Play several times so everyone can join in.

  • Organize an Ariel Sing-Along: Guests will find their voice with this boisterous activity. Play songs from the movie and encourage all your little mermaids to sing along with Ariel.

Little Mermaid Party Favors

Pass out Little Mermaid party favors to the children at the end of the birthday party. Visit your local party supplier to purchase tropical fish ring lollipops and ocean stamps. Little Mermaid goody bags can also include Little Mermaid stickers, goldfish, bubbles, and shark fruit snacks. Place all of the items in a blue-green cellophane bag for the final “under the sea” touch.
