B2R’s unique method is based on the knowledge that students learn best when they join together to play the music they like the most. That’s why we use special arrangements of the music of our time and combine individual lessons with band instruction. Weekly “jam sessions” lead to Battles of the Bands and recording sessions in B2R Studios, our own professional recording facilities. B2R also holds regularly scheduled public concerts that encourage students to become seasoned performers. These creative group activities foster teamwork, build self-esteem and motivate students to perfect their musicianship through independent practice.
***SPRING & SUMMER MUSIC CAMPS***
PRIVATE & GROUP LESSONS (Ages 7+):
The greatest hurdle in the study of music is its solitary nature. It’s hard to expect active young people to devote a half hour or more each day to practice by themselves. Most kids quit their music lessons in less than a year or two — before they really learn to play and experience the pleasure and fulfillment that comes with musical skill.
At Bach to Rock, we transform music and music lessons into a social experience, adding a strong group incentive to playing, learning, and practicing. We have found that maximum progress is achieved through a blend of individual instruction and playing with one’s peers in bands. Our methodology transforms music into a team sport, adding healthy competition and personal interaction. Therefore, we strongly encourage all students to combine a regular schedule of individual lessons with our supervised band Jam Sessions, which, in turn, lead to public performances, recording sessions, and Battles of the Bands. Private lessons are recommended for children 6 years and up.
ROCK BAND CLASS (Ages 7+):
The special excitement about music training at Bach to Rock comes from students playing together in bands. Our professional band coaches work closely with students and direct and train the bands. At B2R, students are placed in compatible bands according to their age and ability. Bands are usually made up of four to six players and a vocalist (who may also be one of the band’s instrumentalists).
Like playing in a sports league, belonging to a band supports teamwork and positive social interaction. The achievement of mutual objectives during band lessons builds self-esteem, while the opportunity to perform in public at various B2R concerts and compete in Battles of the Bands brings peer recognition, encourages healthy competition, and results in a strong sense of personal accomplishment. Learning and playing music with one’s peers fosters lasting friendships among students, builds new connections between families, and provides a strong social incentive for students to continue to work together towards common, productive, and creative goals.
GLEE CLUB (Ages 7+):
Bach to Rock is proud to announce the B2R Glee Club! Inspired by the television sensation, this premier choral ensemble offers a dynamic atmosphere for male and female students to unlock their inner star! Each student will explore fun vocal exercises, singing in harmony, and cool choreography while performing arrangements of popular songs. The B2R Glee Club provides a group learning experience that emphasizes reading music, intonation, listening skills, rhythm, and healthy vocal technique. The club will also get to show off its talent at exclusive live performances!
KIDS N KEYS (Ages 5-7)
Kids n Keys introduces children to the fundamentals of music and piano playing in a fun group-setting. In three 8-lesson segments students will encounter the concepts, symbols, and sounds that form the basis of music literacy. Our curriculum incorporates different types of activities and games that involve listening, movement, singing, and creative music-making. We also firmly believe that young students have the ability to make music at the keyboard even before they can read music notation. In every class, students learn to play popular melodies on the piano and prepare for a group concert.
ROCK N ROLL CLASS (Toddlers):
Rock n Roll is a high-energy and stimulating music and movement class for toddlers and their grown-up. Each class contains a variety of music and movement based activities. Weekly sessions with age-appropriate themes and musical selections. Experience the developmental benefits of music in a setting and with music that makes it fun for the mom, dad, or caregiver as well!
ROCK CITY (Preschoolers):
Whether they’re a budding rock-star or an aspiring classical soloist, Rock City is the place to find real music education for your preschooler. Through dynamic musical and movement-based activities, exposure to live instruments and musically inspired story-time, budding young musicians gradually develop the skills needed to read music, play simple rhythms and develop fine motor control - skills that are essential for future success in playing an instrument. Classes focus on foundational musical concepts such as fast and slow, sound and silence, high and low and even singing and playing major scales, and with our special take-home activity materials, their musical adventures will last all week long.
